Vigilent Brings Hard-Dollar ROI to DCIM

New DCIM Toolkit Enables Data-Driven Decision Making for Facility Cooling

EL CERRITO, Calif.--()--Vigilent® today expanded its Intelligent Energy Management system with a comprehensive suite of tools for Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) that provides at-a-glance detail on the health and performance of data center cooling equipment and temperature ranges, supporting more data-driven decision-making. The new DCIM Toolkit is unique in its ability to help IT and facility managers optimize their cooling infrastructure and improve the safety of IT assets in mission-critical environments.

“Most data center operators have zero visibility into the environmental conditions and health of their cooling equipment," said Dan Mascola, Vigilent Product Marketing Manager. “The Vigilent DCIM Toolkit provides data center managers with the essential visibility they require to effectively manage their mission-critical facilities. Now, hot and cold spots can quickly be addressed, poor-performing cooling equipment identified, and the impact of changes to the infrastructure quantified.”

The Vigilent system incorporates an advanced AI Engine to process the Big Data it collects 24/7 from across the data center. The DCIM Toolkit applies Intelligent Analytics technology to analyze and present this information as actionable data in digestible formats. Comprehensive reports deliver information critical to assessing data center health, utility rebate reporting, corporate sustainability (CSR) initiatives, and efficiency project justifications.

The DCIM Toolkit provides snapshot views at both high and granular levels. Its reports quickly surface key analytical information that puts control in the hands of site managers, allowing them to quickly and effectively answer questions such as:

  • Where are the hot spots in my facility? How critical are they?
  • A few CRACs are operating poorly compared to the others; are they broken?
  • How much energy did we save after installing plug fans?
  • Did temperatures improve after we rearranged floor tiles? How much additional energy did we save?
  • Where are the cold spots? How much extra cooling capacity will fixing these free up?

The toolkit includes a Measure and Verification Report that quantifies before-and-after energy usage and costs, and determines greenhouse gas savings; a Temperature Compliance report delivering an at-a-glance, visual assessment of hot and cold spots; and a Cooling Performance report that calculates the individual performance of each cooling unit using real-time data to quickly rank cooling unit performance. Data can be viewed over wide ranges of time with the ability to interactively drill down to the rack sensor level when specific answers are required. Returns on investment can be quickly and easily calculated.

The DCIM Toolkit is now included as a standard component of the Vigilent Intelligent Energy Management system and is available immediately.
