Cone Health Joins the Premier healthcare alliance

GREENSBORO, N.C.--()--Cone Health has become a new Premier healthcare alliance member, joining nearly half of the nation’s hospitals in reducing costs and improving care delivery. By partnering with Premier, Cone Health becomes part of the alliance’s group purchasing network, which generates more than $5 billion in savings each year by aligning supply chain management with operational and quality improvement.

“Cone Health is excited to partner with Premier in our quest to become a national leader in quality, service and cost in the delivery of healthcare,” says Cone Health CEO Tim Rice. “This is more than a group purchasing contract. An important piece is collaboration among members. Cone Health will learn from and share with other alliance members those ideas that will help us succeed in an ever-evolving healthcare environment.”

Cone Health will benefit from access to PremierConnect, the largest integrated technology platform and social networking community in healthcare. This promises easier integration of data across the Cone Health network.

Specifically, Cone Health will have access to the following benchmarking tools:

  • QualityAdvisorcompares patient-level quality, safety and financial outcomes data among all alliance members to reduce hospital-acquired conditions, mortality, readmissions and costs.
  • OperationsAdvisor® compares operational performance against peers and national benchmarks.
  • SpendAdvisor® analyzes total supply expenditures to find savings opportunities.

Premier Chief Operating Officer Mike Alkire says, “Healthcare reform has placed an added emphasis on connecting care and focusing on patient-centered innovation to spur better local and national community health. By joining the alliance, Cone Health will share best practices and gain insights from other members to improve performance. The beneficiaries are the people of Greensboro and the surrounding region.”

Cone Health is under a management contract with Carolinas HealthCare System, a Premier owner for more than four years.

Cone Health is committed to being a national leader in quality, service and cost. The Network for Exceptional Care consists of The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital, Women’s Hospital, Annie Penn Hospital, Cone Health Behavioral Health Hospital, LeBauer HealthCare, MedCenter High Point, MedCenter Kernersville and various outpatient clinics and programs.
