AppThwack Launches Complete Mobile Experience Testing Solution for Android, iOS and Mobile Web

New service is first to automate functional and compatibility testing across Android, iOS and mobile web browsers - using a cloud-based lab of over 200 real devices

PORTLAND, Ore.--()--AppThwack today announced the launch of a complete mobile experience testing solution for iOS, Android and mobile web, leveraging their cloud-based device lab of more than 200 phones and tablets.

AppThwack, which began offering Android testing tools last fall, developed the expanded solution in response to the changing needs of today’s mobile development teams. Often, teams are creating applications and content that must run well on a wide variety of platforms - including hundreds of different hardware devices, operating software versions and mobile web browsers. AppThwack’s automated functional and compatibility tests analyze each screen in real time - capturing screenshots, performance data, and any errors that occur.

“Working closely with these mobile developers and QA managers, we realized that they need a solution that addresses Android Apps, iOS Apps and mobile web experiences together,” explains co-founder Trent Peterson. “By quickly creating intelligent reports about performance and compatibility across platforms, we can save them hundreds of hours of manual testing time.”

Today’s mobile application, game and content creators are increasingly looking to cloud-based mobile testing solutions as a way to save on the time and costs associated with manual, in-house testing. But many experienced developers and QA managers require a degree of flexibility, speed and intelligent analysis that cloud-based tools have struggled to deliver.

AppThwack’s new solution addresses those needs, says co-founder Pawel Wojnarowicz. “We’ve created a solution that works with nearly any testing platform - Robotium, Calabash, KIF, UI Automation - and returns intelligent analysis on more than 200 devices within 10 minutes. Now, with the addition of mobile web testing and our API for continuous integration, we have a complete solution for teams who demand fast, flexible cloud-based testing.”

Since last fall’s public launch, more than 1,000 developers and organizations have used AppThwack to test their mobile applications, including customers like Symantec, New Relic, Mozilla, Wooga and PikPok. With nearly two million tests run in the past six months, AppThwack is seeing rapid adoption from companies focused on building high-quality mobile apps and experiences.

New Relic’s Senior Software Engineer, Jared Stanbrough, explains, AppThwack enables New Relic to rapidly perform compatibility testing across a wide variety of hardware, which allows our mobile engineering team to stay focused on software. AppThwack’s simple yet powerful UI makes deployment trivial and provides valuable results in minutes.

AppThwack also announced they have recently taken on a round of growth funding in order to rapidly expand their cloud-based mobile testing solutions. Investors in this round include Rogue Venture Partners, TiE Angels Oregon, Portland Seed Fund, and Upstart Labs.
