CARSON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Every year, West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) conducts one of its signature water education programs: the Water is Life Student Art Contest. The goal of the program is to encourage third through twelfth grade students to create a water conservation message and illustrate it with original, hand-drawn artwork. This year, young artists submitted over 390 pieces of beautiful artwork from 43 public and private schools from West Basin’s service area, making it a challenge for the judges to select the winning pieces.
Winning art pieces were chosen based on the creativity of their portrayal of water conservation messages and their artistic skill. The students’ art will be reproduced on bookmarks and posters for distribution at the winners’ schools and at local public libraries. Sponsorship for this year’s contest came from the law offices of Lemieux and O’Neill, United Water and the Water Replenishment District, who provided grand prize winners with a Mac Book Pro lap top computer.
President Carol W. Kwan said, “The Water is Life Student Art Contest is one of our premier water education programs. It is a creative way to bring the conservation message to our young students. Each year we are amazed and impressed with the artwork we receive.”
