JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Community Management Concepts of Jacksonville, an Associa company, proudly announces that The Overlook at Baymeadows Condominium Association has been selected as a winner in the 2013 Florida Communities of Excellence Awards.

Managed by Vaida Silva, LCAM, CMCA, AMS, The Overlook at Baymeadows won a Community of Excellence award in the Safety and Security category.

Over the years, The Overlook at Baymeadows has faced several security/crime issues from petty theft, vandalism to car break-ins and burglarized units. The community came together to assess the current situation and begin implementing safety precautions for the benefit of all residents. The community updated the gate system, installed additional security cameras, erected fencing along the side of the property flanked by a commercial development, and contracted with members of the Jacksonville sheriff’s office to patrol the property four to six times a week. In addition, the community conducted two separate security assessments and has begun implementing the recommendations.
The results have been a continued relationship with the Jacksonville sheriff’s office and an ongoing commitment to creating a safe and secure neighborhood for residents.
“As budget and time permits, we will continue to evaluate improvements throughout the property,” Mingus explained. “We are in the process of replacing some of the fencing along Baymeadows Road to prevent people from improperly entering the property, as well as additional lighting and cameras in vulnerable areas. We have recently installed three new stop signs and three crosswalks to improve the safety of pedestrians, as well as directional signs to assist drivers in locating buildings on the property. And we continue to contract with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to provide patrols on the property, increasing the number of officers making those patrols.”
