IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ASICS America congratulates Andy Potts on his incredible win at Ironman 70.3 California Saturday in Oceanside, CA. This was Potts first race of the season and what a way to kick-it off. Leading into the event he expressed pure joy and excitement to be racing here again. This is Potts fifth win at Ironman 70.3 California and he knows this course like no other. Similar to his previous wins, Potts took the lead early by being the first athlete out of the water. However, this year the competition was fierce and the race was not decided until the very end.
When Potts left the transition area for the run, the final leg of the event, he was 3 minutes behind the leader. With only 2 miles to go on the run Potts had made a lot of progress, but was still 15 seconds behind the lead racer. Potts was able to pull ahead in the final quarter mile to secure the victory. Potts finished with a fantastic time of 03:49:45.
“I go into each race motivated to get the most out of myself and today was no exception,” stated Andy Potts. “I am thrilled with this win, I was hungry for it and during the run kept pushing and pushing myself every tenth of mile for the last several miles to be the first to cross the finish and win.”

What’s next for Potts is the Ironman 70.3 St. George on May 4, 2013. In just over a month from now, he will continue his journey and seek another 70.3 victory.
