Universal Music Enterprises Announces Exclusive Record Store Day Releases from Blind Melon, David Bowie, Nick Drake, Ben Harper, Pink Floyd, Placebo, The Roots, Ringo Starr, Frank Zappa, and Rob Zombie

Record Store Day: April 20, 2013

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--()--Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) is pleased to announce exclusive releases for Record Store Day from Blind Melon, David Bowie, Nick Drake, Ben Harper, Pink Floyd, Placebo, The Roots, Ringo Starr, Frank Zappa, and Rob Zombie. All of the special releases will be available for purchase on April 20, exclusively at Record Store Day-participating indie music retailers.

Blind Melon: Blind Melon + “Sippin’ Time Sessions” EP
(2LP, 180-gram vinyl)
Blind Melon’s self-titled 1992 debut is digitally remastered for the first time and presented in a 2LP vinyl gatefold package. The band’s never before released “Sippin’ Time Sessions” EP, featuring five songs recorded at Sound City Studios in 1991, is included as the double LP’s Side 4: “Dear Ol’ Dad,” “Soul One,” “Tones Of Home,” “Seed To A Tree,” and “Mother.”

David Bowie: “Drive-In Saturday” / “Drive-In Saturday” (Russell Harty Plus Pop Version)
(7” picture disc vinyl single)
To commemorate its 40th anniversary, David Bowie’s 1973 single, “Drive-In Saturday” (from Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album) is paired with its Russell Harty Plus Pop Version, presented on a 7” picture disc in a clear plastic sleeve. This release is the fourth in a series of David Bowie 7” picture discs.

Nick Drake: Nick Drake
(LP, 180-gram vinyl)
An authentic, 180-gram audiophile vinyl reproduction of Nick Drake’s rare and sought-after 1971 U.S. collection, remastered by John Wood, featuring eight songs from Drake’s first two albums. The LP is presented in a faithfully-reproduced pasteboard gatefold sleeve with a replicated original U.S. shop poster and album history. A bonus voucher offering a choice of free download formats, including high definition 24-bit and dubbed-from-disc, is also included.

Ben Harper: By My Side
(LP, 180-gram vinyl)
Released in 2012 on CD and digitally, By My Side’s 12 tracks were personally selected and sequenced by Ben Harper for a cohesive collection including “Forever,” “Diamonds On The Inside,” and “Waiting On An Angel,” an exclusive new ballad, “Crazy Amazing,” and a previously unreleased studio version of “Not Fire Not Ice.”

Pink Floyd: “See Emily Play” / “Scarecrow”
(7” vinyl single)
Before it was included on the U.S. version of The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, Pink Floyd’s “See Emily Play” was originally released in the U.K. in 1967 as the band’s second single, with “Scarecrow” as its B-side. The replica 7” is presented in a Columbia range bag with a 4-panel booklet which unfolds into a poster.

Placebo: “B3” EP
(10” clear vinyl EP – numbered/foil-stamped)
Released in 2012 on CD and digitally, Placebo’s “B3” EP is an eclectic and exclusive mix of newly-written songs and previously unreleased album session recordings, presented on clear 10” vinyl for the first time.

The Roots: Things Fall Apart
(2LP, 180-gram vinyl – numbered/foil-stamped)
The Roots’ critically acclaimed and best-selling album, 1999’s Things Fall Apart, makes its full-art double LP debut with this audiophile-quality 180-gram vinyl release, presented in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes.

Ringo Starr: Singles Collection
(three 7” vinyl singles in lift-top box)
Ringo Starr’s “Photograph” b/w “Down And Out” / “It Don’t Come Easy” b/w “Early 1970” / "(It's All Down To) Goodnight Vienna" b/w “Oo-Wee” are collected on three 7” singles, presented with replicated original artwork and a bonus spindle in a lift-top box.

Frank Zappa & The Mothers: “I’m The Slime” / “Montana”
(7” green vinyl single – numbered/foil-stamped)
Out-of-print on vinyl since its original 1973 release, Frank Zappa & The Mothers’ exclusive single version (45 rpm) of “I’m The Slime” is a different version than the track on Over-Nite Sensation. B-side “Montana,” is a different edit. Both are remastered from their original analog sources. This special edition makes its long-awaited return on Green Slime Vinyl, commemorating its 40th anniversary. On Barking Pumpkin Records.

Rob Zombie: “Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Supertown” / “Teenage Nosferatu Pussy”
(10” red vinyl single – numbered/foil-stamped)
Rob Zombie unleashes two brand new songs from his forthcoming album, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, on a collectible 10” red vinyl 45RPM single with reverse-groove play (from center to edge).
