Capella University Announces Plan to Cover Tuition Assistance Funds for Existing Military Learners

The online university to provide tuition assistance funding for the spring term for existing military learners with the Air Force, Army, Marines and Coast Guard

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In response to the decision of the Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Army to suspend their tuition assistance programs due to the sequestration and other budgetary pressures, Capella University (http://www.capella.edu) has announced that it will cover the tuition assistance (TA) funding for the spring quarter 2013 for approximately 300 existing military learners who have been impacted by the suspension. The Navy has not yet eliminated its tuition assistance program. Approximately 14 percent of Capella learners are affiliated with the military. As of Dec. 31, 2012, more than 36,000 students were pursuing an online degree at Capella.

Capella will provide tuition assistance funding through grants for existing military learners for the spring 2013 term, which typically amounts to $167 per credit. Although the TA programs offered by the military typically limit the amount of funding that military students can receive at $4,500 per year, the funding that Capella will be providing will not count toward that amount.
