BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) today announced that its µEnergy™ platform for Bluetooth v4.0 low energy connectivity is powering several next-generation wireless game controller and mouse products in the new Mad Catz GameSmart™ mobile gaming accessory product family. Mad Catz is using this CSR Bluetooth Smart™ solution to provide the GameSmart technology powering its new C.T.R.L.R Wireless GamePad, R.A.T.M Wireless Mobile Gaming Mouse and M.O.U.S.9 Wireless Mouse, which are designed to meet the high expectations of gamers wanting controller and console-like accessory functionality for their tablets and mobile/smart devices.
Mad Catz will be demonstrating the C.T.R.L.R Wireless GamePad product at the CSR booth [Hall 6 Stand 6D35] during Mobile World Congress, using it to wirelessly interact with Windows 8 tablet games.
“We firmly believe that Bluetooth Smart is a key technology for mobile devices, and as a prominent leader in Bluetooth Smart technology, CSR is a logical choice for supplying this critical component in our range of wireless GameSmart products,” said Darren Richardson, Mad Catz President and CEO. “The CSR 1011 µEnergy device we employed gives us a single-chip solution with industry-leading battery life and high levels of responsiveness and performance, essential for console-like gaming on mobile devices.”
The Bluetooth Smart technology provided by CSR enables GameSmart control products to be game and hardware independent, have a simplified setup process, deliver longer battery life and provide universal compatibility. Bluetooth Smart offers direct connectivity to Windows 8 platforms, as well as to many smartphones and tablets, and GameSmart products provide a CSR8510™-based USB nano-dongle for use with legacy platforms.
The single-chip CSR1011™ µEnergy device Mad Catz chose provides not only the convenient Bluetooth low energy wireless connectivity for these new GameSmart accessories, but also all the functionality needed to rapidly detect and process the multiple, fast-paced digital and analogue inputs that result from gamers manipulating the controller and mice. It offers a complete, optimised, low-energy solution, with RF, baseband, microcontroller, qualified Bluetooth v4.0 stack and the ability to run a customer application.
Fully equipped with triggers, media controls and dual analogue sticks, plus shoulder and action buttons, the C.T.R.L.R Wireless GamePad brings a fully featured, low latency, console-like experience to any compatible smart device. With an adjustable palm rest, 12 action buttons (including 10 programmable), the R.A.T.M Wireless Mobile Gaming Mouse is the first to combine the power of Bluetooth Smart technology with a gaming-grade laser sensor and market-leading battery life for optimum performance. Designed for everyday use, the M.O.U.S.9 Wireless Mouse is based on its gaming mouse sister and can track on virtually any surface, even glass, for home and office applications.
“We share the Mad Catz vision for the future of control devices for mobile and tablet platforms and Bluetooth Smart technology’s place in it as the emerging standard for accessories, and we look forward to working with them as their GameSmart family of products evolves,” said Paul Williamson, Director of µEnergy at CSR. “By working closely with innovative partners like Mad Catz, CSR is able to continue to provide market-leading Bluetooth low energy solutions geared to the unique needs of our customers.”
