Bread for the World Encourages Open Dialogue on Food Aid Reform

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bread for the World welcomes an open dialogue between the Obama administration and Congress to identify the most efficient and effective approaches for providing life-saving assistance to millions of people around the world. According to recent reports, the Obama administration is considering changes to U.S. food aid in its fiscal year 2014 budget request. In response, Bread for the World president Rev. David Beckmann issued the following statement:

“While the specific nature of the proposal is still unclear, Bread for the World supports efforts that would reform the U.S. approach to delivering food aid. However, such efforts must not come at the expense of those who depend on these programs to survive.”
