EMH Healthcare Goes Live with Capsule’s Mobile Device Integration Solution

ANDOVER, Mass.--()--Capsule Tech, Inc., the leading provider of medical device connectivity solutions, today announced that EMH Healthcare, Elyria, Ohio has gone live on Mobile Vitals Plus (MVP) in its medical surgery unit. MVP is the portable version of Capsule’s Neuron™ touch-screen platform that enables a nurse to use one device to collect and send validated vital signs from any spot check monitor at the point of care. The EMH activation of Capsule’s MVP solution represents the first use of MVP to integrate medical devices with Siemens Soarian® enterprise healthcare information technology solutions. Siemens and Capsule’s longtime relationship was recently extended to enable Siemens to market Capsule’s full line of connectivity solutions, which includes MVP.

“We had been searching for a solution that could enable us to move data directly from spot check monitors to the patient record in real time -- without paper, without transcription and without typing,” said Charlotte Wray, Vice President, Clinical Operations and Information Systems of EMH Healthcare. “Our nurses and patient care technicians began using the units immediately, and they started requesting the ability to monitor additional variables beyond vital signs. Our clinical users are excited about the potential of this implementation and the impact it has on patient safety and quality of care, and we have plans to deploy across the entire hospital in 2013.”

Siemens has a history of helping healthcare providers achieve systems interoperability. The Soarian environment provides innovative, user-friendly tools that empower users to quickly build interfaces enabling the exchange of complex information. In this case, medical device integration reduces the need to manually enter vital signs data, makes patient data available more quickly, supports increased provider productivity and minimizes the potential for human error by reducing transcription and keying in of vitals signs data. Through the expanded relationship with Capsule Tech Inc., Siemens can begin offering these benefits to more organizations using Siemens clinical information systems.

At the core of Capsule’s connectivity solution is DataCaptor™. Proven and tested in nearly 1,200 implementations, DataCaptor manages the communication between medical devices and destination clinical information system(s). Data can be collected continuously in higher acuity care environments, or periodically in lower acuity areas. DataCaptor software is deployed through software on a PC, terminal server and/or bedside hardware such as the Capsule Neuron. Implementations range from single departments to system-wide deployment at hundreds of hospitals in a single network.
