Tom Lehman Birdies Bring $17,000 to Junior Achievement and the Alzheimer’s Association

Allianz Life donates for Lehman Birdies from the 13th Annual Allianz Championship

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life) today announced that it donated $17,000 to Junior Achievement of South Florida and the Southeast Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association as a result of Tom Lehman’s birdies from the 2013 Allianz Championship. The company donated $1,000 for each of Lehman’s 17 birdies during the 3-day tournament, bringing the total to $8,500 for each organization. Lehman tallied five birdies on Friday, four on Saturday and eight during Sunday’s final round, finishing tied for 6th place in the 2013 Allianz Championship with a total score of 207.

“Congratulations to Tom on his fantastic performance at the 2013 Allianz Championship and thank you for helping us bring more attention to Junior Achievement and the Alzheimer’s Association as a result of your great play,” said Allianz Life Chief Marketing Officer Nancy Jones. “As one of our sponsored golfers, Tom has been a terrific partner to help us build support of financial literacy and grow awareness of Alzheimer’s.”

This was the second year of the Lehman challenge. In 2012, the program netted $10,000 for both organizations. Allianz Life partners with Junior Achievement and the Alzheimer’s Association because of their focus on improving financial literacy and providing services to seniors.

With 13 chapters in Florida, Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. The Alzheimer’s Association enhances efforts for researching a cure and provides support and educational services to Alzheimer’s patients, families and caregivers. The Southeast Florida Chapter serves seven counties including St. Lucie, Okeechobee, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Miami/Dade and Monroe.

The 2013 Allianz Championship was won by Rocco Mediate with a final score of 199, 17 under par. This event is the first tournament of the early-season Florida swing for the Champions Tour. The Golf Channel televised all three rounds and tournament proceeds were donated to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
