CARROLLTON, Texas--()--Consumer Electronic Exchange (“CExchange”), a leading provider of electronic trade-in, recycling and asset recovery services, today announced that it has achieved Responsible Recycling (R2) certification, following the successful completion of a rigorous third-party audit of the company’s compliance to recycling programs and practices. CExchange provides mobile phone carriers, retailers and manufacturer partners with an environmentally sound and economically feasible disposal option for electronic waste, or e-waste, such as computer monitors, CPUs, printers, scanners, fax and copy machines and more.

R2 Certification

The R2 Standard sets forth requirements relating to environmental, health, safety, and security aspects of electronics recycling. The R2 seal of approval is granted to companies that comply with stringent recycling standards based on a combination of state and national laws, international regulations and industry-accepted best practices. The certification also requires recyclers and their vendors to assure that more toxic material streams are managed all the way to final disposition.

“There is no greater responsibility than protecting our clients’ trade-in and recycling by adhering to the most rigorous environmental criteria for recycling e-waste. To CExchange, matters of reuse and recycling are not treated simply as business practices – rather, it’s about a commitment we have to environmental stewardship and social accountability,” said Hunter Howard, CExchange President and COO.

“We are proud that R2 Certification and our commitment to managing our partner programs to its comprehensive set of safety and security regulations serves as an example for the electronics trade-in industry. Unlike most other trade-in programs, we take complete control and full responsibility for all used electronic equipment from the moment it leaves the hands of the consumer until it is either reused or recycled,” said Scott Nordhaus, chief executive officer of CExchange.

CExchange joins approximately 239 facilities globally that hold R2 certification. Every certified R2 recycler has been rigorously audited by an independent third party auditor that evaluates each recycler in more than 50 areas of operational and environmental performance.

The CExchange eSafe & eSecure Promise

Choosing the right electronics recycler to manage information technology assets can be a challenging, yet critically important decision. Selecting the wrong electronics recycler could expose manufacturers, retailers and carriers to data mismanagement, legal and financial risk and even liabilities for environmental pollution. CExchange is introducing the eSafe & eSecure emblem, to let partners and consumers immediately identify certified trade-in programs. The eSafe & eSecure emblem guarantees that any traded equipment will be managed according to the highest industry standards for data security, safety and environmental compliance.

All CExchange partner programs are protected by the eSafe & eSecure standards which certify that the company:

  • Adheres to the highest industry standards in operations, data security and environmental performance
  • Takes environmental responsibility seriously
  • Creates a system of accountability for any and all personal data on devices, all the way to final disposition
  • Guarantees protection of data on all processed devices

“As a CExchange ‘eSafe & eSecure’ approved program, our consumers are guaranteed to receive a fair and competitive value for their used electronics along with the peace of mind that rigorous personal data security and environmental procedures are in place,” said Sammy Saloum, vice president of value added services. “Perhaps more importantly, this emblem distinguishes our program as one that continues to innovate in terms of environmental responsibility and data security compliance efforts.”

The CExchange facility is equipped with state-of-the-art security equipment to ensure that sensitive or confidential information is not compromised, and the company utilizes processes that protect the environment. From the moment any material arrives, it is tracked using a barcode system and security cameras. All electronic equipment containing data is processed in accordance with strict standards and, if recycled, adheres to a zero landfill policy whereby all usable materials are recaptured and reintroduced into the manufacturing supply chain.
