California Libraries to Celebrate “Recycle For Reading” Month

California Libraries Will Kick Off a Month-Long Campaign to Promote Literacy and Environmental Awareness Beginning January 2013

TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As part of a statewide effort to promote literacy and environmental awareness, California libraries will participate in a month-long e-waste collection that will offer their communities environmentally safe and responsible recycling of household and business electronics. Hundreds of libraries throughout the state of California will partner with All Green Electronics Recycling, an e-Stewards Certified company, for “Recycle for Reading Month,” beginning January 2nd, 2013 through January 31st, 2013. The event aims to help keep electronic waste out of local landfills by ensuring safe and responsible recycling or upgrading outdated electronics for reuse. As part of its commitment to statewide public libraries and as a supporter of the No Child Left Behind Act, All Green pledges to donate restored and upgraded computers to participating libraries that wish to donate a computer to households in need of computer technology. Librarians can register their libraries to participate in “Recycle for Reading” as well as learn how to donate a computer to a household in need by visiting www.allgreenrecycling.com or calling 800-220-4676.

“Budget cuts are forcing California libraries to reduce their staff and this is putting reading programs at risk of being discontinued”

“Budget cuts are forcing California libraries to reduce their staff and this is putting reading programs at risk of being discontinued,” said All Green CEO Arman Sadeghi. “Recycle for Reading aims to raise awareness about keeping our planet waste-free while supporting literacy in our communities.”

All Green Electronics Recycling will partner with libraries in several counties, including San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Fresno, San Luis Obispo, Alameda, San Francisco, Mendocino, Kern, Sacramento and Humboldt.

Participating libraries will use special bookmarks and resources to notify the public while All Green will provide all of the logistics for the collection events, including labor, transportation and domestic recycling. The goal will be to collect computers, monitors, laptops, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, cell phones, mp3 players, ink toner cartridges, printers, microwaves, cables and wires, calculators and any small or portable electronics. Because All Green specializes in IT Asset Disposition and Data Destruction services for corporations, libraries can dramatically increase their fundraising effort by getting local businesses involved. Companies can donate their IT equipment to the library of their choice by visiting www.allgreenrecycling.com or calling 800-220-4676.

All Green’s IT Recycling policy ensures that all items collected at the roundup will be responsibly processed in North America with a zero-landfill policy.
