Frontier Communications Partners with The History Channel to Bring ‘Take a Veteran to School Day’ to Butternut Creek Elementary School

ALOHA, Ore.--()--From 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. November 6, Frontier Communications, in partnership with The History Channel, will bring the Take a Veteran to School Day program to Butternut Creek Elementary School in Aloha. As part of Take a Veteran to School Day, students in Grades K through 6 will have the opportunity to honor local veterans during the school’s annual Patriotism Month. The event is open to the media.

A national initiative developed by The History Channel to link veterans with students nationwide, Take a Veteran to School Day is designed to help children learn more about the history of Veterans Day. The program connects generations and helps young people learn about the past through the voices and experiences of veterans from all backgrounds and walks of life.

With Frontier’s support, 399 students from Butternut Creek Elementary will gather for an assembly to hear stories of service from Frontier Communications employees who are veterans. The students, who will wear T-shirts, bracelets and buttons provided by The History Channel, will then recite the Pledge of Allegiance and perform patriotic songs for the veterans to show their appreciation. The event will also include a flag ceremony led by Cub Scout Pack #886.

Frontier Communications’ partnership with The History Channel on Take a Veteran to School Day is part of a larger commitment by the company to support those who have served our country.

“Frontier has a history of honoring and appreciating the service of our country’s veterans, and Take a Veteran to School Day is yet another demonstration of our commitment to these service people,” said Jeanne Danielson, Frontier Communications general manager for Washington and Yamhill Counties. “Veteran’s Day 2012 also marks the two-year anniversary of Frontier’s agreement with the Employer Partnership for the Armed Forces. We’re proud to say that we have hired 435 veterans since the program’s inception, and we employ approximately 1,650 veterans and reservists companywide, which comprises roughly 11 percent of our workforce.”

Now in its sixth year, Take a Veteran to School Day began in one Connecticut school and has grown to include more than 10,000 schools in all 50 states. From single class visits to all-school assemblies, these events provide a way for students to learn more about the history of Veterans Day and about the experiences of veterans.
