Maine.gov Offers Mobile Friendly Online Services to Assist Voters in the Upcoming Election

Voter Information Lookup service now displays sample ballot for every voting district

AUGUSTA, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Secretary of State Charlie Summers reminds voters about convenient online services available on Maine.gov in preparation for the upcoming election. The Absentee Ballot Request service (http://www.maine.gov/online/absenteeballot) and Voter Information Lookup service (http://www.maine.gov/online/voterinfo) are now accessible on any mobile device.

“There are over 900,000 registered voters in the Maine”

Secretary Summers spoke about the new mobile features, stating, “These online services were created to help citizens find the information they need in order to participate in Maine’s electoral process. The rapid increase in the use of smartphones and tablets is changing the way people get their information and with that, we saw an opportunity to enhance the accessibility of our services.”

In addition to a new mobile-friendly design, the Voter Information Lookup service now displays a sample ballot for each voting district in Maine. To use the service, citizens simply enter their residential address to learn where their polling place is located, how to contact their elected officials, and view a sample ballot.

“There are over 900,000 registered voters in the Maine,” Summers remarked, “And for the first time, they have the ability to go online and view a sample ballot that is specific to their voting district, which will help voters better prepare for election day.”

The Absentee Ballot Request online service is available to any Maine citizen registered to vote, including those currently serving in the military or residing outside the United States. By submitting a request online, the municipality will receive it electronically, which speeds up the process of providing ballots to requestors. Municipalities must receive all voted ballots by November 6th at 8 P.M.

Other election resources available on Maine.gov from the Secretary of State include:

  • Maine Citizens Guide to the Referendum- Detailed information about the questions that will appear on the upcoming ballot.
  • Maine Elections FAQ- Answers to common questions about voting, candidates, Election Day information and voter registration in Maine.
