First Travel App to Use Credit Card Scan Technology

SOUTHLAKE, Texas--()--Travelocity’s newest iPhone® app for U.S-based travelers – Hotel Deals by lastminute.com – has launched and is available for free download on the Apple App StoreSM.

The latest mobile travel app by Travelocity draws upon the heritage of lastminute.com, Travelocity’s sister company in Europe and concentrates on travelers who are truly booking at the last minute. It lets them book tonight, tomorrow or the next day for up to seven nights, giving travelers instant access to three-to-five star hotels with discounts up to 55%.

Hotel Deals by lastminute.com is the first travel app to implement an innovative credit card scan tool that uses the iPhone’s camera to capture and auto-fill the billing information fields to save on-the-go travelers the hassle of tapping in numbers on a small screen.

The app offers discounted rooms from both major chain hotels and independent properties that are designated three star and higher, and features Travelocity Top Secret Hotel deals, which offer consumers even lower rates by not naming the exact hotel until the booking is complete.

Additional features of the Hotel Deals by lastminute.com app include:

  • Single page checkout with auto-fill that inserts and remembers the traveler’s name, address, and email info
  • An interactive map to see top-rated hotels located nearby and/or local points of interest
  • Filters that allow travelers to search for the best hotel based on price, distance, customer ratings or hotel star rating
  • The ability to view upcoming and previously booked trips in the “MyTrips” tab
