KUKA Robotics Corporation Rethink & Reshore Technology Event

August 14-15 event showcases 20 live robotic automation demonstrations and presentations by leading technology providers

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich.--()--KUKA Robotics Corporation is opening the doors of its new North American headquarters August 14 and 15 for the first annual Technology Event at 51870 Shelby Parkway, Shelby Township, Mich. KUKA Robotics is showcasing 20 operating robotic demonstration cells for a variety of applications and introducing the KR AGILUS Robot Series to North America at this event. The event gives manufacturers ideas on how to rethink their sourcing strategies and consider reshoring as a viable option when automating processes. KUKA Robotics moved to its new location in November 2011.

Stu Shepherd KUKA Robotics' CEO and Area Manager – North America states, “We’ve made strides in the North American marketplace, increasing our presence, growth and expertise in our North American team while taking advantage of local opportunities in Southeastern, Michigan in addition to expanding our facilities in Canada and Mexico. The Technology Event is a direct result as these efforts becoming reality and demonstrates KUKA Robotics is well-positioned to continue supporting our customers and the vital North American manufacturing region."

KUKA Robot Demonstration Cells

1. KUKA Quantec KR 180 R3200 PA New Generation Palletizing Robot
This cell demonstrates the new palletizing robot’s arm high speed and versatility in a palletizing application, with a KRC4 controller in a bag palletizing application. This innovative robot series is capable of over 27 cycles per minute and is just one of three units available in this product family.

2. OKUMA CNC Lathe Tending cell demonstration with a shelf mounted robot
The KUKA Quantec KR 270 R2900 K Ultra robot mounted over top of an OKUMA LB 2000 EX CNC lathe, showing the space saving strategies that allow higher density operations and improved operator accessibility.

3. KUKA KR 210 R2700 robot performing robotic machining operations
This cell demonstrates the ability to use a 6 axis robot in a machining application. The KUKA.CNC control option enables KUKA robots to be programmed and operated directly through machine language G code and can process even the most complex programs from CAD/CAM systems.

4. KUKA KR AGILUS KR 6 R900 Sixx Small Robots
This demonstration introduces the New KUKA KR AGILUS robots to show its mounting versatility (Floor, Wall, and Ceiling) and will operate with the new KRC4 Compact Controller.

5. KR AGILUS KR 6 R900 Sixx demonstrating CNC lathe tending application.
This cell demonstrates the speed and agility this small robot was designed for by minimizing the cycle time while tending a CNC machine tool incorporating vision inspection and post machining part debur.

6. KUKA Welding and Material Handling Robots operating in full coordination with one another
This workcell shows the concept of fixtureless welding by demonstrating three arc welding and one material handling Servo Robot showing KUKA’s RoboTeam Software functionality, showing how the robots can work in full coordination with one another.

7. Arc Welding Live Demonstrations
Four (4) live welding demonstration cells showing;
• High speed tandem welding at 80” per minute utilizing tandem Lincoln Electric Powerwave I400™
• Aluminum welding with Fronius CMT high speed touch sensing
• High speed single wire welding with ESAB Aristo 5000 power supply
• Vision guided welding with Miller Auto Access 450 DI power supply

8. KUKA robot programmed via a PLC
This cell demonstrates the ability to entirely program a KUKA robot from a PLC utilizing KUKA.mxAutomation software. This cell will show the high level integration between KUKA’s KRC4 robot controller and a Siemens S7 PLC. KUKA.mxAutomation can also be used with a Rockwell ControlLogix PLC.

9. Light Weight Robot Demonstration
This cell shows the innovative 7 axis KUKA LWR robot. It’s 7kg payload capacity and only 16kg arm weight, along with integrated force sensing, and hand guiding capability makes the LWR the ideal robot for medical, research and assembly applications.
