Humana and dLife Launch Multimedia Diabetes Engagement Experience for Medicare Advantage Members

LOUISVILLE, Ky. & WESTPORT, Conn.--()--Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation’s leading health care and well-being companies, announced today that it is currently rolling out a diabetes self-care program to targeted Medicare Advantage members, in partnership with dLife Healthcare Solutions.

Humana launched a pilot in August 2011 at Humana with more than 18,000 member participants. The My Diabetes Path (MDP) program successfully engaged Medicare Advantage members in a multi-channel, multimedia intervention that leveraged dLife’s proprietary content, tools, and online community to promote better self-management of their diabetes and improved quality outcomes. Early results from the pilot program indicate improvements in HEDIS scores and Medicare STAR ratings.

Clinical outcomes from the pilot, based on medical claims for members enrolled versus a control group, show promising results:

  • 7% improvement in LDL screening
  • 9% improvement in blood sugar screening
  • 7% improvement in eye exams
  • 6% improvement in kidney disease monitoring

In addition, since the expanded roll-out began, interest in the program has been high, with enrollments trending 20% above goal.

My Diabetes Path is designed to improve awareness, engagement, and education on diabetes self-management and control. This approach allows participants to adopt and sustain effective diabetes self-care behaviors at their own pace. The program targets improvements in compliance with recommended screenings, A1C and LDL control, member knowledge about diabetes self-care, and adoption of positive self-care practices that will help members improve their health and well-being.
