National Wildlife Federation and Earth Networks Partner to Foster K-12 STEM Education, Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Programs

RESTON, Va. & GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The National Wildlife Federation and Earth NetworksSM, the owner of WeatherBug® and operator of the largest weather observing and lightning detection networks, are partnering to enhance STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, promote environmental literacy, and increase awareness of sustainability and “green” issues through a series of education and outreach programs aimed at educators, K-12 students, families and the general public.

“inspiring Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future”

The organizations will share and integrate weather, climate and environmental content in NWF’s Eco-Schools USA and Earth Networks’ WeatherBug Schools Programs, which are used in thousands of K-12 classrooms nationwide. In addition, both organizations will promote public awareness campaigns about nature and conservation. The popular WeatherBug web, mobile web and mobile apps will soon include additional content on the outdoors and wildlife, while NWF’s apps and website will incorporate weather data and information.

This collaboration brings together two established organizations with close ties to the planet and its atmosphere. Founded in 1936, National Wildlife Federation’s mission is “inspiring Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future,” which includes programs to get kids outside and connected with nature. With more than four million members and supporters, it is America’s largest conservation organization dedicated to protecting and restoring wildlife habitat.

Earth Networks was founded 1993 and is “Taking the Pulse of the Planet” with the largest worldwide networks for monitoring weather, lightning and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Earth Networks puts weather information at the fingertips of millions worldwide via its WeatherBug mobile apps, desktop app and website and provides enterprise solutions for all industries impacted by weather including education, government, agriculture, energy, broadcasters, sports and recreation and transportation.

“The National Wildlife Federation is committing to building environmental awareness among children of all ages through learning both inside and outside the classroom. By partnering with Earth Networks, we wish to engage millions of students and educators and encourage them to actively improve their school and community environments,” says Kevin Coyle, Vice President, Education and Training at the National Wildlife Federation. “A big part of our work is growing the public’s knowledge about the natural world and the need to protect it and enjoy spending time outdoors. Partnering with Earth Networks will enable us to reach millions through the popular WeatherBug brand.”

“Our partnership with the National Wildlife Federation aligns two organizations with deep roots and continued investment in K-12 education,” says Amena Ali, Chief Marketing Officer, Earth Networks. “By teaming with the NWF, we can further expand the hands-on learning taking place in thousands of classrooms by providing additional environmental and educational content. We are also excited to share informative content about the environment and wildlife with our loyal WeatherBug audience across our web and mobile properties.”
