Q.CELLS Completes PG&E Solar Plant Projects as Part of Utility-Owned Generation (UOG) Program

30MW AC of Solar Power Installed by Q.CELLS for PG&E in California’s Central Valley

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Q.CELLS North America, a subsidiary of Q-Cells SE and global leader in designing, building and managing financially sustainable solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions, has completed two Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) projects in California’s Central Valley totaling 30 megawatts (MW) AC. Chosen by PG&E as a preferred partner for the 250 MW utility-owned generation (UOG) program last year, Q.CELLS North America has completed the construction of two solar power plants, namely the Cantua project, a 20MW (AC) plant, as well as the Giffen project, a 10 MW (AC) plant, in Cantua Creek, CA. The UOG program enables 250 MW of utility-owned solar PV to be developed over a five-year period.

To celebrate this milestone, PG&E is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Cantua Creek site today.

“PG&E and our partners today celebrate another milestone in our solar PV program,” said John Conway, Senior Vice President of Energy Supply for PG&E. “These new solar facilities demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing our customers with some of the cleanest energy in the nation. We’re proud that more than half of our electricity comes from sources that are renewable or emit no greenhouse gases. We applaud the dedicated workers from Q.CELLS who are helping us harness even more clean energy from the sun.”

“Q.CELLS is proud to have completed this portion of the utility-owned generation program with PG&E,” said Boris Schubert, CEO of Q.CELLS North America. “It is our mission to offer customers, such as PG&E, a sustainable return on their investments in solar energy projects through our expertise in solar energy system design and construction, and we look forward to working with our partners to continue solar energy integration in North America.”
