MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--West Virginia University (WVU) alumnus Greg Babe ('80 B.S.) will deliver the keynote address at WVU’s Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources’ 2012 Commencement at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 12, in the Coliseum. During the ceremony, he will also receive an honorary Doctorate of Science from the university.
Babe is President & CEO of Bayer Corporation (USA) and Bayer MaterialScience LLC, and Senior Bayer Representative for Bayer in North America.

Babe has deep roots at WVU. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1980. As a student, he served as president of Tau Beta Pi and was a member of Pi Tau Sigma. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and served on several student committees. Today, he remains actively involved with his alma mater, serving on the WVU Foundation Board of Directors.

Babe was recognized by WVU’s Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources as a Distinguished Alumni in 2006, inducted into WVU’s Academy of Distinguished Alumni in 2009, and inducted into the WVU Business Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2011, he was the 2011 Glen H. Hiner Distinguished Lecturer.
Babe began his career at Bayer in 1976 as an intern at the New Martinsville, W.Va., facility. After 36 years, he will retire from the company on June 30, 2012. Babe is married, has four children and resides in Mt. Lebanon, a suburb outside of Pittsburgh.
