Nordson Micromedics Releases Clinical Study Data on Assisted Injection vs. Manual Injection of Dermal Fillers

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Micromedics Inc., a subsidiary of Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ: NDSN), recently concluded a clinical study of the Artiste® Assisted Injection System.

“These results suggest that compared to manual injection, the Artiste System will help clinicians inject viscous dermal fillers more reliably with better accuracy and will provide a comfortable treatment experience for the patient. We are thrilled to offer such an exciting and innovative device to the aesthetic marketplace.”

The Artiste System is an innovative device that enables clinicians to inject dermal fillers and other sterile materials with increased control for more consistent delivery and a new level of performance.

Findings from the three-center, 52-subject study1 showed that clinicians significantly favored Artiste over manual injection, particularly with regard to the following key attributes:

• Better-looking results

• Ease of treatment

• Reduced number of injections

• Consistency of results

In addition, one center reported the use of Artiste led to a significant reduction in the amount of dermal filler used.

According to Nordson Micromedics General Manager Lise Duran, “These results suggest that compared to manual injection, the Artiste System will help clinicians inject viscous dermal fillers more reliably with better accuracy and will provide a comfortable treatment experience for the patient. We are thrilled to offer such an exciting and innovative device to the aesthetic marketplace.”

"The Artiste Assisted Injection System provides many advantages to the clinician when performing treatments,” notes Z. Paul Lorenc, MD, FACS Plastic Surgery, NY, NY, who was the Principal Investigator of the clinical study. “It reduces thumb fatigue, and the needle angle of entry can be reduced, providing more control over the syringe itself because you’re closer to the syringe than when injecting manually. You set the pressure and flow rate depending on the product you are injecting, your needle size, the viscosity, and the area you’re treating. The Artiste is very flexible and adapts to any area you’d like to treat.”

Patients will also benefit from the Artiste System. While the trial study indicated no preference, a separate patient survey conducted by Micromedics, showed patients preferred the Artiste device over manual injections, in terms of general comfort and the amount of bruising, swelling and erythema.2 In his continued use of the Artiste system in his practice, Dr. Lorenc noted, “My experience with Artiste has demonstrated its effectiveness in decreasing the amount of bruising, swelling and side effects commonly seen with other injection techniques.”

This spring, Nordson Micromedics will be showcasing the Artiste System on April 29th – 30th at the Cosmetic News Expo in Islington, London, and on May 3rd – 8th in Vancouver, Canada, at The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s Aesthetic Show.

About the Artiste System

The Artiste System is a syringe assist device intended for use in the administration of sterile materials under aseptic conditions in accordance with the best judgment of a trained clinician. It eliminates hand fatigue while allowing injection of viscous materials, such as dermal fillers, through fine gauge needles, providing more consistent, reproducible results.
