John E. Schellhorn Named President and Chief Executive Officer of Monteris Medical, Inc.

Seasoned Medical Executive Selected to Drive Commercialization of Promising Medical Technology for the Treatment of Brain Tumors

WINNIPEG, Manitoba--()--Monteris Medical, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of John E. Schellhorn as President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding James Duncan who is retiring. Schellhorn will also be joining the Board of Directors.

In his new role, Schellhorn will guide the company’s continuing development and rapid commercialization of its NeuroBlate™ System (formerly “AutoLITT®”), a proprietary MRI-guided, focused ablation device for the treatment of brain tumors. “I am delighted to be joining the Monteris team as we broaden the availability of this new, minimally invasive treatment for patients suffering from both primary and metastatic brain tumors,” said Schellhorn. “This technology is showing great promise in treating an under served patient population,” concluded Schellhorn.

“John’s experiences successfully commercializing new technologies, together with his strong leadership skills are a great fit for Monteris. The NeuroBlate System is now being used at leading brain tumor centers throughout the U.S. John will be preparing and guiding the company for this period of rapid growth and expansion,” said Kevin McGarry, Chairman of the Board of Monteris.

Prior to joining Monteris, Schellhorn served as the Chief Commercialization Officer for BÂRRX Medical, a leader in the treatment of Barrett’s Esophagus. (BÂRRX was acquired by Covidien earlier this year). Prior to that, Schellhorn served as President and CEO of Softscope Medical Technologies Inc., a venture backed G.I. company that was sold to FUJIFILM Corporation in 2010. His professional experience also includes tenure as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Peripheral Vascular Division of ev3 Inc., Vice President and General Manager International for ACMI Corporation, (acquired by Gyrus PLC in 2005), along with various management positions within Boston Scientific. Schellhorn earned a B.A, Summa Cum Laude, from Long Island University. Prior to his commercial career, he served seven years in the military as a U.S. Marine Corps pilot.
