TestPlant introduces new scripting capabilities and a new integration strategy for its eggPlant testing tool to establish eggPlant as the industry standard for image-based testing

First new integration released for continuous integration with open source application, Jenkins

LONDON & BOULDER, Colo.--()--TestPlant, developer of the eggPlant software testing tool, has introduced a major new capability to help software quality professionals to automate more of the testing process. At the same time, it has announced a new integration strategy that will help to establish eggPlant as the image-based test tool of choice for a wide variety of test frameworks.

eggPlant creates a visual depiction of GUIs and screens, enabling software testers to automate the testing of screens through a ‘search and compare’ technique. The technique is entirely non-invasive which is a unique and invaluable feature in industries such as defense, security, media and medical devices.

New feature extends eggPlant’s test automation capabilities

Until now, eggPlant’s test automation scripts had to be written in SenseTalk, its own, easy-to-use scripting language. The new capacity, eggPlant Drive, will process external scripts and process commands, enabling QA professionals and testers to automate tests based on other script-based languages including JAVA, Perl, and Visual Basic.

George Mackintosh, chief executive for TestPlant, said: “As more organizations want to effectively, securely and thoroughly test screens, mobile devices, games and other GUI-based devices, we see a massive opportunity in opening up eggPlant to accept and interpret scripts written in other languages. I expect to see a real boost in adoption as we establish eggPlant as the industry standard for image-based testing.”

New integration strategy to increase adoption

TestPlant has also embarked on a new integration strategy to broaden the availability of eggPlant and to drive its adoption as the tool-of-choice for any test framework, including those for open source and proprietary applications.

The first integration is with Jenkins, an open source continuous integration tool designed to improve quality control on software development projects. eggPlant is now available as a plug in for Jenkins, and can be downloaded from https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/eggPlant-plugin.

Mackintosh said: “eggPlant has already been adopted by 500 organizations worldwide. We expect to increase that number significantly by making eggPlant easier to access and use for software testers using a wide range of testing tools and frameworks.”
