MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio--()--Lottery fever has reached an even more frenzied pitch with news that The Messenger, featured in ads from Progressive auto insurance, is randomly giving away 1,937 Mega Millions© tickets to people throughout New Orleans. The 1,937 tickets will help mark Progressive’s 75th anniversary, as a nod to the year the company was founded – 1937.

“I’m already ‘saving it forward’ by giving people across the country opportunities to save time and save money,” said The Messenger. “Now I’m giving them a chance to live in a way most of us can only dream about. If one of those tickets holds the lucky numbers, I hope the winner also saves it forward and spreads their good fortune with others.”

The Messenger purchased the tickets at Esplanade Discount One on W. Esplanade Ave.

“I’ve never sold so many lottery tickets at one time,” said Shobha Movva, the store’s owner. “And when he said he was giving them all away I thought he was crazy. He just told me he’s ‘saving it forward.’ And I guess we could all use a little bit of savings.”

The Messenger has been in New Orleans for the past two days, taking the money he saved by switching his insurance to Progressive and saving it forward to people he meets. He’s already bought locals their morning beignet, helped cover their tax payments, and has made “positive pullovers” that rewards drivers on the spot for their safe driving habits.

His visit to New Orleans is part of a nationwide journey, which has included stops in Tampa, Fla., Cleveland, Colorado Springs, Colo., Phoenix, Ariz., Austin, Texas, Los Angeles, Portland, Ore., and Seattle. Along the way he’s filled up tanks of gas for people, paid for their parking, covered their airport baggage fees, waited in line to get their morning coffee, gave away hard-to-get concert tickets, and much more. Hundreds of people have been touched by The Messenger’s random acts of savings so far, and his journey can be followed on Facebook at facebook.com/progressivemessenger.

NOTE TO EDITORS: The Messenger will be giving away lottery tickets on 3/30 at 9:30 a.m. on the corner of Decatur and Canal Street. He will be available for photographs and video at that time.
