ORLANDO, Fla.--()--Partnerpedia, a leading provider of mobile app management and marketplace solutions released findings from a recent industry survey that overwhelmingly shows the need for Enterprise App Store (EAS) solutions to go beyond simply mobile apps and devices.

Partnerpedia’s survey targeting enterprise companies shows that 77 percent of respondents support a “bring your own device” policy within the company. In addition to the expected support for mobile phones and tablets within an EAS, results also unveiled that 76 percent of respondents indicated the need to support laptops; and 64 percent the need to support desktops. Furthermore, an overwhelming 86 percent majority of the respondents indicated the desire to support formats such as documents, files and videos.

“Note the phrase ‘Enterprise App Store’ never had the word ‘mobile’ in it,” said Sam Liu, VP of Marketing at Partnerpedia. “While mobile devices and apps are the driver behind companies reformulating their enterprise mobility strategy, clearly enterprises are thinking and planning beyond just mobile apps and devices. And that is the right approach.”

For mobile app management, the EAS model is significant because it allows IT managers to control the publishing, distribution and management of approved apps to end user devices. The model also enables administration functionalities such as virus checking, policy management, and user access control. By the same token, the EAS model can also be used to distribute and manage other document and content types, not just mobile apps.

Other findings from the survey:

83 percent of respondents are planning to build both native apps and HTML5 apps, with native apps leading by a slight margin. This brings to light other capabilities expected from an enterprise app store, including app vetting and curation - for apps published into the store - no matter where the source came from.

Over 86 percent of respondents rated the need for end-user self-service as ‘high’ to ‘very high’. This underscores the demand for an ease-of-use model, similar to what users experience in consumer app stores.

Unlike mobile device management (MDM) solutions, EAS represent the bridge between IT control and end-user self-service. The EAS model empowers the end-user with easy access and flexibility over what works best for them, which will ultimately increase employee productivity.

IT research firm Gartner has reported that by 2014, 60 percent of IT organizations will deploy private app stores. In this Partnerpedia survey, 58 percent of respondents indicated plans to implement within the next 12 months, or by March 2013.

Partnerpedia will be previewing its cloud-based EAS solution, the Enterprise AppZone at Enterprise Connect in Orlando, Florida, at the Gaylord Palms Hotel, March 26-28, 2012 at booth # 1300.

Designed for ease-of-use and rapid deployment, Enterprise AppZone offers IT a centrally controlled app vetting, publishing, distribution and management solution for mobile devices. Its features include virus detection, monitoring, policy management, user/group access control and remote wipe. In addition, Enterprise AppZone includes an application marketplace where IT can securely purchase and freely download pre-vetted business apps. It also supports corporate procurement processes such as volume and PO purchasing, and license management.
