Teradici APEX™ 2800 Server Offload Card Now Supporting VMware View™ 5.0 on ESXi 5.0

Teradici hardware acceleration card now benefits from all ESXi 5.0 features

BURNABY, Canada--()--Teradici, the developer of the innovative PC-over-IP® (PCoIP®) protocol that enables a true PC experience for desktop virtualization, today announced the compatibility of its Teradici APEX 2800 server offload card for VMware View deployments on ESXi 5.0 vSphere Server.

VMware ESXi 5.0 combined with View 5.0 improves VDI user experience through a brand new virtual GPU capability, which enables better graphic performance, starting with the 3D/aero features present on Windows 7 OS. However, this new feature is enabled at the cost of increased server CPU utilization. The Teradici APEX 2800 server offload card enables IT managers to reclaim these CPU cycles and eliminate the need to re-architect the VDI environment already in place, all while ensuring a reliable and consistent user experience even as VDI loads change.

The APEX 2800 monitors the activity of all the VMs on the server and dynamically offloads the most active 64 displays, reducing server CPU utilization by up to 50 percent. The card is also fully compatible with VMware DRS and vMotion. By consolidating the number of View users on the same server, and leveraging View Administrator interface for its management, the offload card helps to reduce the overall cost per user.

“With our dedication to developing and providing solutions that highlight and complement the benefits of VMware View deployments, we are pleased to announce full compatibility on ESXi 5.0 with the APEX 2800,” said Trent Punnett, vice president of marketing, Teradici. “We are committed to maintaining full compatibility with future releases of VMware View and vSphere to ensure the APEX 2800 remains future proof for our growing PCoIP-enabled VDI customer base.”

The Teradici APEX 2800 PCoIP server offload card is available through distributors worldwide, as well as from HP and Dell websites as a peripheral at the list price of $1,995 in the US. For more information, please visit www.teradici.com/APEX.

About PCoIP Technology

Teradici’s PCoIP protocol is an innovative remote display technology that allows the user’s desktop operating system, applications, and data to reside in the datacenter, eliminating the need for traditional desktop workstations, PCs and thin clients, and delivers an uncompromised user experience to each person, anywhere, over any network and to any type of device without incurring the security risks associated with having data reside in remote PCs, laptops, or tablets. PCoIP technology provides high resolution, full frame rate 3D graphics and high-definition media, with full USB peripheral interoperability, locally over a LAN or remotely over a high-latency WAN. It compresses, encrypts and encodes the entire computing experience at the datacenter and transmits it 'pixels only' across a standard IP network to secure, stateless PCoIP zero clients, thin clients, and mobile devices.

The protocol is implemented in several software configurations, including VMware View™, the industry leading desktop virtualization platform as well as in silicon for hardware accelerated performance and enhanced security. A growing ecosystem of over 30 third-party vendors provide a wide variety of PCoIP products including server plug-in cards, rack and tower workstations, blade PCs, zero clients, integrated monitors, and IP phones with PCoIP capability.
