Fund Raiser to Benefit Children in Ghana who otherwise can not attend school

NEWBURYPORT, Mass.--()--Clothes for Hope, Inc., a non-profit organization founded by seventeen year old Lauren Sundstrom to benefit local communities, as well as children in Ghana, announced today a Shop for a Cause event to take place this coming Saturday, March 31st from 8:00AM – 4:00PM at the Newburyport CleanTech Center located at 10 Mulliken Way in Newburyport.

Over 7,000 pieces of designer, new and consigned clothing, shoes and accessories have been donated by local residents and area businesses including, Converse Shoes, Katwalk Clothing, John Farley’s Clothiers, French Lessons Boutique, Gentry’s, ReNew Revolution, Pandora’s Box, Pure Bliss, Modern Millies and more.

All clothing will be sold at extremely discounted prices with proceeds going to fund uniforms and desks for schools in Ghana. In 2011, Sundstrom traveled to Ghana to teach underprivileged and orphaned children. Currently, there are about 1.2 million children between the ages of 7-14 working or enslaved in Ghana, and unable to attend their local public schools due to the expense of a uniform. The average cost of a uniform is 9 USD and a desk is 32 dollars USD.

Sundstrom founded Clothes for Hope, Inc., to help Ghanaian children to receive an education, while also assisting local communities in offering quality designer clothing at a discount price to the North shore area.

Funds raised from the event will be used to renovate classrooms and purchase uniforms as well as desks for Ghanaian students in the Keta School District and New Seed International School and Orphanage, offering these children an education, and hope for a brighter future.
