FirstFuel Announces Product Support for Green Button Initiative

The Company will use Green Button Data to Perform Zero-Touch Energy Assessments of Commercial Buildings, Delivering Energy Efficiency Savings across Utility Building Portfolios

LEXINGTON, Mass.--()--FirstFuel Software, the commercial building energy analytics company, today announced that it will provide product support for the Green Button initiative. The company will use utility interval electric data employing the Green Button standard to perform comprehensive, zero-touch energy assessments of commercial buildings, translating that solution into customer engagement and delivered savings for utilities.

The result of a challenge from the White House and the U.S. Department of Energy, the Green Button initiative is a voluntary effort by utilities across the country to provide energy usage data to customers in an easily accessible standard format. The goal of the Green Button initiative is to make energy data more accessible, both to consumers as well as trusted third parties that could innovate with the data to create energy saving applications. Although the Green Button has most often been mentioned for its potential to help consumers reduce their energy use, the standard has great potential for commercial buildings.

As U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu has stated, “providing consumers with easy access to data on their energy consumption can help give them the tools they need to make informed decisions about their energy use. Developing applications and services to help consumers understand and control their energy use is a field ripe for American innovation.”

FirstFuel will use the Green Button to help identify, initiate and track retrofit and operational energy efficiency savings opportunities in commercial buildings. In addition, FirstFuel will support the output of interval data, helping the utilities become Green Button providers to their customers.

“Commercial buildings provide the most significant energy efficiency savings opportunity in the United States. To achieve these savings at scale, our industry must maximize our use of the data and information available,” said Swapnil Shah, co-founder and CEO of FirstFuel Software. “The Green Button Initiative underscores this notion that data is the key to unlocking the trillion dollar energy efficiency savings potential in the U.S. FirstFuel supports the initiative and is committed to helping utilities realize these tremendous savings opportunities across their commercial building portfolios.”

FirstFuel’s unique Rapid Building Assessment (RBA) platform uses interval meter data to create a comprehensive, zero-touch energy assessment of commercial buildings which it uses to help utilities engage their commercial customers and deliver savings. In addition to its work with utility customers, FirstFuel has applied its zero-touch analytics on behalf of government agencies and ESCOs.
