Silver Spring Networks Announces Its Support for Green Button Initiative

Energy Usage Data Tool Will Be Integrated into Silver Spring’s Award-Winning Customer Engagement Solution, CustomerIQ™

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Silver Spring Networks, a leading smart grid networking platform and solutions provider, today announced that its award-winning, customer engagement solution, CustomerIQ™, will support the White House-inspired, industry-led “Green Button” initiative. The Green Button initiative will enable utilities to provide their residential and commercial customers with detailed, downloadable energy usage information.

The Silver Spring CustomerIQ customer engagement solution features an interactive web portal that delivers near real-time energy insights via the web, mobile devices, email, and in-home devices as well as weekly email reports and messaging to in-home devices, helping customer service representatives engage customers in energy use topics. When combined with the Green Button feature, consumers will have timely access to their own energy data in consumer-friendly and computer-friendly formats and will be able to shift or lower their energy usage, save money and reduce their environmental impact.

“Our support of Green Button continues Silver Spring’s commitment to open, standards-based networking and innovation to enable a dynamic and thriving smart grid ecosystem,” said Matt Smith, senior director, demand-side management business at Silver Spring. “We are pleased to support the nationwide initiative which will empower consumers to make more informed decisions about their energy use.”

As Secretary Steven Chu has said, “Providing consumers with easy access to data on their energy consumption can help give them the tools they need to make informed decisions about their energy use. Developing applications and services to help consumers understand and control their energy use is a field ripe for American innovation.”

Silver Spring’s utility customers using the CustomerIQ web portal offering will have the option of enabling or disabling the Green Button feature at their discretion.

Silver Spring Networks is participating at Power to The People event on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Newseum in Washington, DC. Working with many of its innovative utility customers, Silver Spring will be presenting a Google Earth-based demo, highlighting multiple smart grid applications.
