LAKE ZURICH, Ill.--()--Fenwal, Inc. announced today it has begun marketing, selling and distributing the HemoFlow 400 blood collection monitor/mixer in Europe under a new agreement with the device’s manufacturer, Applied Science, Inc.

Fenwal is a global medical technology company focused on improving blood separation, collection, safety and availability. Applied Science, or ASI, is a U.S.-based designer and manufacturer of blood-collection monitors and mixers.

Blood monitors and mixers are used during blood donations. They monitor the quantity of blood collected and gently mix the blood as it is collected to prevent clotting.

The HemoFlow 400 is the lightest monitor/mixer available worldwide. Its compact size, low weight and long battery life make it easy to transport for mobile blood drives. The HemoFlow 400 is simple to use both due to built-in advanced technology that automates manual steps, and the customizable programming options that help assure the proper amount of blood is collected.

“The HemoFlow 400 improves the blood-donation experience and blood center professionals really enjoy using it,” said Dean Gregory, Fenwal senior vice president of Commercial Operations. “Customers like the light-weight design, automated features and built-in safety alerts that help assure successful collections.”

The HemoFlow 400 makes it easy for blood collection professionals to monitor donation procedures. A large backlit LCD display shows important procedure data, such as draw volume, flow rate and how much time has elapsed since the start of the donation.

With intuitive instructions and audio and visual alerts, the HemoFlow 400 blood collection mixer helps reduce operator intervention allowing staff more time to focus on the donation experience. The unique design helps assure the precise mixture of anticoagulant and prevents blood clotting. When the target collection volume is met, the system automatically clamps.

ASI’s advanced HemoFlow 400XS device includes integrated barcode scanning and wireless data networking capabilities, and can store up to 150 draw records. It also allows for wireless transfer, traceability and remote monitoring of blood draw information when used in conjunction with the Collections Management Reporting Solution (“CMRS”) data management software. For blood collection professionals, this capability reduces manual steps and the potential for transcription errors in documenting donation information.

“Fenwal is a trusted global leader in transfusion medicine with extensive knowledge and experience in blood separation technologies. Moreover, they are also aware of the customer benefits of integrated data management solutions and services,” said Jonathan G. Morgan, Applied Science president and chief executive officer. “Fenwal understands the advantages the HemoFlow 400XS and CMRS can bring to blood center operations, and is well positioned to make these benefits easily accessible to blood collection professionals across Europe.”
