Kippure Estate’s Innovative “Bushtucker Survival Challenge” a Big Hit with Businesses in Ireland

Signature teambuilding event combines bushcraft skills and problem-solving, with a culinary twist

WICKLOW, Ireland--()--With employee motivation a growing issue in the workplace, businesses are seeking out new ideas for boosting morale and encouraging greater teamwork and productivity. To this end, Kippure Estate in Co. Wicklow has devised a wholly original teambuilding challenge which is both educational and entertaining – and genuinely beneficial for businesses.

The “Bushtucker Survival Challenge” has been carefully designed to address not just one, but several management issues. It has proved effective in increasing productivity and in improving time management and inter-team communication. It also helps participants to hone their delegation skills and strategic thinking.

The “Bushtucker Survival Challenge” is a multi-faceted outdoor challenge for groups of between 8 and 100 people, combining basic bushcraft skills with culinary creativity. Think “Survivor” meets “MasterChef”.

Teams have to cook up a feast outdoors using basic equipment, build shelters and fires and learn navigation skills. They must also prioritise the tasks put before them and allocate them to the most appropriate team member, so participants also learn a lot more about themselves and about the skill sets and personalities of their colleagues.

All of this takes place in and around the extensive grounds of Kippure Estate, led by a team of professional event organisers.

Martin Dunn, Event Manager at Kippure Estate says of the event:

While there are other bushcraft challenges for corporates out there, we genuinely believe that none can match our content in terms of problem-solving and strategising. The culinary challenge also gives it much broader appeal.

Feedback tells us that many people enjoyed the day much more than they expected to. “Survival skills” can be off-putting to some who don’t like the idea of digging or going ‘back to nature’. Our challenge is far more about decision-making and learning genuinely useful skills, than it is about getting hands dirty for the sake of it,” he adds.

With many businesses facing tough market conditions at the moment, teambuilding events may seem like a luxury, but the difficult periods are often the best times for doing this.

“When morale is low, our Bushtucker Survival Challenge can really lift the spirits and help people to re-discover enthusiasm for their jobs”, adds Mr Dunn.
