Fujitsu Laboratories of America and Jardogs Collaborate on Bio-Data Collection for Patient Monitoring and Reporting

Prototype solution enables anytime, anywhere bio data collection and real time Electronic Health Record updates

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--()--At the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference today Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. announced the results of a joint development collaboration with Jardogs, a subsidiary of Springfield Clinic focused on developing innovative healthcare solutions, around remote patient monitoring and reporting. As part of the collaboration, Fujitsu’s remote sensing platform technology has been integrated with Jardogs’ FollowMyHealth™ Universal Health Record (UHR) enabling anytime, anywhere collection and seamless transmission of selected types of health data. This data, which is immediately visible in the patient’s UHR and ultimately their Electronic Health Record (EHR), enables better management of patient outcomes by allowing healthcare providers to monitor patients’ compliance and progress with prescribed care plans outside a medical setting.

To achieve this novel solution, Fujitsu Laboratories of America built a pocket-sized prototype platform of hardware and software that can collect sensor data over multiple wireless and wired channels, process it locally, and display the raw or analyzed data via an onboard web server. The data, which is de-identified prior to transmission to preserve the patient’s privacy, is simultaneously transmitted in real time to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant FollowMyHealth Universal Health Record account and is visible to both the patient and respective care providers. This integrated prototype, currently entering trials, is a first step for future patient-permitted automated and ubiquitous monitoring, and sets the foundation for further research and development in the areas of care delivery and compliance.

“The healthcare industry is looking to the Information and Communications Technology industry to offer creative solutions that address spiraling costs while maintaining the quality of care,” said Yasunori Kimura, President and CEO of Fujitsu Laboratories of America. “We are pleased to collaborate with Jardogs to prototype an end-to-end solution that enables seamless sensing and reporting from a patient’s body all the way to his or her EHR.”

The FollowMyHealth Universal Health Record is a solution developed by Jardogs that combines the integration of a patient portal with the patient management features of a personal health record to create a truly universal tool for proactive health management.

“This unique solution enables clinicians to interact with patients and investigate a patient’s health between visits, reducing the need for more expensive monitoring in a hospital or clinical setting,” said Jim Hewitt, CEO of Jardogs. “We are pleased to collaborate with Fujitsu Laboratories of America to develop and test a proof of concept that supports the industry’s move towards ’fee for value’ and improved quality of care.”
