Connecting the Next Big Wave of Cloud Computing Infrastructure

Cisco, Intel and Aquantia to present at ETS 2012 conference

Ethernet Technology Summit 2012

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Ethernet Technology Summit 2012 – Aquantia, the leading developer of High Speed Ethernet connectivity solutions for cloud computing and large scale data center deployments, announced today it will be joined by Cisco and Intel to present on a panel titled “Connecting the Next Big Wave of Cloud Computing Infrastructure” at this week’s Ethernet Technology Summit 2012 in San Jose, California. The panel will be held at 10:00am, on Thursday, February 23, as part of the Tutorial T1-2A: Ethernet and Cloud Computing (Emerging Technologies Track).

The panel will bring together experts in the areas of high-speed physical layer interconnect technologies and system-level architecture. The panelists will review the trends underlying the upcoming shift in cloud computing infrastructure from 1 Gigabit Ethernet to 10 Gigabit Ethernet. They will provide insight into choices for connectivity that Data Center administrators and planners will have at their disposition. As the next generation servers based on Romley platform are massively deployed, 10GBASE-T, in particular, is projected to play a critical role as a ubiquitous interconnect technology between servers and switches.

Tom Burniece, president, Burniece Consulting Services, will moderate the panel presented by the following experts:

  • Malhar Shah, director, product management, Cisco Systems, Inc.
  • Sunil Ahluwalia, senior manager, product marketing LAN Access Division, Intel Corp.
  • Kamal Dalmia, vice president, marketing and sales, Aquantia Corp.

“As Cisco announced earlier this month, our research shows that more than 50% of computing workloads in data centers will be cloud-based by 2014, and global cloud traffic will grow more than 12 times by 2015, to 1.6 zettabytes per year,” stated Malhar Shah, Cisco product management director. “We believe the proliferation of 10GE in the data center is central to this explosion of cloud services, and we have a clear vision of how the migration to 10GE and beyond will occur. We look forward to discussing that vision in this week’s panel.”

Intel’s senior manager Sunil Ahluwalia added, “This year we expect to see mainstream servers with integrated 10GbE LOM connections come to market for the first time. These next-gen servers have integrated 10GbE connections in the form of 10GBASE-T, and that's a game changer for cloud computing and data center environments. I look forward to talking further about their system and infrastructure impacts in this panel.”

Kamal Dalmia, Aquantia vice president also stated, “The Romley generation of server platforms now coming to market signals the advent of 10GBASE-T as a ubiquitous interconnect for Data Center servers and switches. Aquantia’s vision and innovation contributes strongly to this reality in 2012, and we are anxious to share what we see coming ahead in the panel.”

According to Crehan Research, 10GbE will see very strong datacenter adoption with port shipments enjoying a 70% compounded annual growth rate over the next three years. “A major driver of datacenter 10GbE growth is cloud computing, and I expect that 10GBASE-T will become a key enabler of cloud computing network connectivity,” said Seamus Crehan, President, Crehan Research.

ETS 2012 features the latest information on advances on Ethernet technologies from the experts who developed the specifications and designing the current products for them. The summit will be held at the Doubletree by Hilton in San Jose, California, from February 21 to 23, 2012.
