Middlesex Hospital Selects Prime-A-Pump to Build and Maintain Evidence-Based Drug Libraries

LOS ANGELES--()--Zynx Health Device Network, a developer of clinical decision support for medical devices, today announced that Middlesex Hospital has selected Prime-A-Pump – an innovative Web-based knowledge resource and collaboration tool for building and maintaining smart-pump drug libraries – to help improve the safety and efficiency of patient care.

Prime-A-Pump offers guidance to healthcare professionals in configuring the safety limits within their pump drug library software, which can help prevent serious medication administration errors. Hospitals can review Prime-A-Pump’s continually updated clinical evidence and use its features to customize their drug library recommendations, discuss issues with multidisciplinary team members, vote on recommendations, and keep a detailed audit trail of their library changes, all within their own secure online environment. Drug libraries can be customized by a single hospital and/or shared across multiple institutions.

“We are very pleased that Middlesex Hospital has chosen Prime-A-Pump to support its efforts to improve the safety of patient care,” says Nancy Greengold, MD, president of Zynx Health Device Network.

“Middlesex Hospital is committed to patient safety and to utilizing evidence-based medicine. Having the resources of Prime-A-Pump available will ensure that the pump library is up to date and accurate without having to tie up pharmacy resources to do so,” says Noreen Todd, BS Pharm, MHA, director of pharmacy for Middlesex Hospital.

Middlesex Hospital uses the Hospira Plum A+ smart infusion pump.

Prime-A-Pump employs an evidence- and experience-based methodology to provide practical recommendations for configuring the safety limits within smart pump drug libraries. This one-of-a-kind tool has been designed to save hospital personnel a tremendous amount of time in researching and updating their drug libraries as well as in communicating and building consensus with colleagues.
