Stanford Athletics fans experience Wi-Fi Instant Replay in Stanford Stadium and Maples Pavilion – with highlight clips available on mobile devices during game time

Stanford Athletics is one of the first intercollegiate athletic programs to bring instant replay over Wi-Fi to its sports venues. The system gives fans in attendance at sporting events on Stanford campus immediate access to video/audio replay on Wi-Fi enabled mobile devices. The hardware deployment and low level software integration is supported by Diversified Systems, an Elemental partner and systems integrator with extensive expertise in building video infrastructure for sports venues.

With Elemental Live supplying adaptive bit rate video, the Wi-Fi Instant Replay system delivers game clips to fans’ mobile devices within 15 seconds of live play. Replays are accessible through the free Stanford GameDay Live website and are available to fans at sporting events hosted at Stanford Stadium and Maples Pavilion. FanConneX created the website and the backend programming that enables video display and other interactive features on mobile devices to enhance the in-stadium experience for sports fans.

Using Elemental Live, input from four different camera sources is continuously encoded in real time to create multiple adaptive bit rate Apple HTTP files, which are immediately stored on a local web server. Replay clips created by operators for the main video streams in the stadium are pushed to mobile devices through the simple use of a function key that passes clip metadata to the Stanford GameDay Live website.
