BOSTON--()--Reuning & Son Violins is pleased to announce the sale of the Stradivari cello of 1707, the “Paganini, Countess of Stainlein”. The cello was purchased for an undisclosed amount via sealed bid auction by a patroness of the arts from Montreal, Canada. The instrument will be endowed to the talented 18 year-old Canadian cellist Stéphane Tétreault.

The “Paganini, Countess of Stainlein” is one of only 60 cellos remaining from the famous luthier Antonio Stradivari, and was most recently owned by the famed Beaux Arts Trio cellist Bernard Greenhouse. Christopher Reuning of Reuning & Son Violins, said, “The family of Bernard Greenhouse had expressed a great interest in the cello remaining in the hands of a musician, and that desire has come to fruition. That Mr. Tétreault will now have an opportunity to make his own name with this amazing instrument is both a perfect ending and a perfect beginning.”

Stéphane Tétreault, currently a student at the University of Montreal under his longtime mentor Yuli Turovsky, is a rising star on the international music scene. He has been a finalist in several music competitions and was recently named Discovery of the Year 2011-2012 by Radio-Canada. "I am thrilled to have the privilege of playing this incredible Stradivari cello," said Stéphane, "and I am immensely touched and humbled to have been chosen to play an instrument that was cherished for so many years by Bernard Greenhouse, who has always had my great respect and admiration.”
