REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Silver Spring Networks, a leading smart grid networking platform and solutions provider, announced today that two additional solution options have been integrated into the Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform. The company now offers the CENTRON II from Itron and the A3 ALPHA from Elster, providing utility customers expanded choice in endpoints. Customer choice is a key advantage of the standards-based approach to building the smart grid that Silver Spring pioneered with its Smart Energy Platform.
“We’ve listened to them and are pleased to bring these two highly valued meters onto the Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform.”
“One of our original motivations for selecting Silver Spring Networks when we were evaluating smart grid technology providers was the flexibility and selection they provided,” said Kazi Marouf, COO of Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. “Having two more meter options to choose from adds even more value to the platform for us.”
The introduction of the Itron CENTRON II meter results from the companies’ multi-year strategy to deliver a range of Itron products on the Silver Spring platform. The CENTRON II meter is a solid-state, single-phase residential electricity meter that provides utilities with unparalleled digital accuracy, reliability and serviceability in a cost-effective package. Personality modules in the CENTRON II meter provide an array of communications and measurement options, and an optional service switch allows for remote disconnect and reconnect activities. Full meter reading and remote meter upgrades across the Silver Spring platform are now available for the CENTRON II.
The new meter introductions mark the first time the Silver Spring platform has supported an Elster meter. The company’s leading C & I meter, the A3 ALPHA meter, uses patented digital measurement techniques that offer high accuracy, repeatability, and low ownership costs. It builds upon standard meter design to include form consolidation, voltage and class consolidations, 0.2 percent accuracy class meters, and functional scalability. Meter reading across the Silver Spring platform will be available in April for the A3 ALPHA, and remote meter upgrades will be supported later this year.
“Our proven, open platform is a powerful draw for customers worldwide,” said Chris Montgomery, senior director of the advanced metering business at Silver Spring. “We’ve listened to them and are pleased to bring these two highly valued meters onto the Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform.”
