Traditionally the fracking process pumps a mix of water, sand, and toxic chemicals (a biocide) into a well at high pressure in order to create fractures in the shale allowing the gas and oil to escape. There is a concern that the chemicals presently used in the fracking process may pollute the area ground water or soil where as SteriFrac as an effective non-toxic, non-combustible and non-corrosive biocide cannot harm the environment.
