CALABASAS, Calif.--()--DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio technology, today unveiled DTS 5.1 Producer—an encoding technology for multi-channel audio that delivers high-quality, immersive sound when creating digital content. Marking the first consumer-level offering with this powerful technology, CyberLink integrated DTS 5.1 Producer into its PowerDirector 10 video editing toolset to bring advanced professional-grade audio capabilities to the home stage for Blu-ray Disc (BD) authoring.
“Since superior audio quality is a major component of any entertainment experience, we are collaborating with forward-thinking companies such as CyberLink to provide consumers with tools to create digital content with high fidelity playback—previously only available in the professional field.”
“Today’s entertainment model is evolving in terms of both consumption and content creation. Compelling entertainment content is generated not only on the studio lot, but also in consumers’ living rooms,” said Brian Towne, executive vice president and chief operating officer at DTS, Inc. “Since superior audio quality is a major component of any entertainment experience, we are collaborating with forward-thinking companies such as CyberLink to provide consumers with tools to create digital content with high fidelity playback—previously only available in the professional field.”
DTS 5.1 Producer is designed to enhance content authoring and editing software solutions and is currently available for camcorder device manufacturers and PC software licensees, among others. DTS 5.1 Producer offers superior audio quality in consumer-based, multi-channel encoder products. Relying on the same high-definition DTS audio technology that is used to encode more than 70 percent of Hollywood-produced films on Blu-ray, the new technology features two output options:
- DTS Coherent AcousticsTM (CA)—takes multi-channel audio and produces a DTS Digital SurroundTM bitstream, encoded at 1.5 Mbps with a sampling rate of 48 kHz. With this stream, consumers can create high fidelity playback to accompany home videos, ideal for the BD format
- DTS Low-Bit Rate (LBR)—offers a low-bit rate option, encoded at 256 kbps, for digital file creation and online streaming. This allows consumers to extend DTS audio streams across various platforms—mobile, TV, PC—to enjoy high-quality audio: anytime, anywhere
Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink, said, “Sound plays a critical role in how people experience entertainment, whether it’s in the theater or at home. By integrating DTS technology into PowerDirector 10, our customers get a powerful editing toolset with pro-level audio capabilities at their fingertips. Furthermore, with increasing popularity of Blu-ray discs, customers can take advantage of the large storage capacity for their high-definition content. The onus is on us to adapt the best toolset that technology can create, and we will continue to evolve our features to accomplish this.”
For CyberLink PowerDirector 10, the DTS 5.1 Producer technology is first available for BD authoring only. Existing PowerDirector 9 customers can learn about available upgrade paths. Visit the DTS site for more information on DTS technologies, or connect with DTS on Facebook and Twitter.
