NEW YORK--()--HMS (NASDAQ:HMSY), a wholly owned subsidiary of HMS Holdings Corp., announced today that is has been awarded a contract by the State of Louisiana, Department of Health and Hospitals, to provide third party liability identification and recovery services. HMS will also perform data matches and insurance verifications to ensure that the state’s third party eligibility resource file remains current, and will also administer the Louisiana Health Insurance Premium Payment program (LaHIPP). The contract extends through June 30, 2014.

HMS has been providing third party liability and cost avoidance services to Louisiana since 1985. During that time, HMS’s cost avoidance efforts have resulted in millions in savings and recoveries for Louisiana. Over the course of the most recent contract term from 2008 – 2011, HMS recovered $118.1 million for the State and cost avoided an additional $275.6M, for a net benefit to Louisiana of $393.7M.
