CLINGLE NOW OFFERING INSTANT LOCATION-BASED GIFTING IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

App’s gifting feature lets users send gift cards instantly from smartphones while attaching a personalized video, audio or text message

Clingle, a new geosocial mobile app that enables users to send location-based personal messages with picture or video, or “Clings,” today announces the launch of Clingle Gifts, a new feature that allows users to send gift cards instantly from smartphones while attaching a personalized video, audio or text message. The feature is currently available for iOS users.

Just in time for the holiday season, Clingle users are now able to surprise friends with gifts in real-time at specific locations. Whether you’re treating a friend to Fandango movie passes that will unlock when they arrive at the theater or sending along a Zappos gift card for the holidays, the new feature combines convenient, instant gifting with multimedia messaging and location-based abilities. Clingle Gifts offers more than 40 brand partners, including Zappos, Barnes and Noble, SpaFinder, Wine.com and Travelocity, among others. Users across the world are able to gift friends, but gift cards are only redeemable in US stores. The gifting feature is powered by iStash and payments are powered by ZooZ.

“We’ve taken check-in technology one step further by incorporating the spontaneity and creativity that comes with surprising a friend or loved one,” said Sonpreet Bhatia, co-founder of MyCityWay, the company behind Clingle. “The new gifting feature allows users to leave a thoughtful gesture at the right place at the right time, but with a far more personal twist. As a first of its kind mobile ‘thank you,’ the recipient can send a cling with a multimedia message, such as a picture of what they purchased with the gift card, as opposed to a traditional email or phone call.”

After downloading the Clingle app for iOS, users can select a friend on the Clingle platform or through Facebook and peruse the feature’s wide repertoire of retail options for the perfect gift. Upon selection, they can pay securely by credit card and attach a video or audio message to send to the gift recipient. After unwrapping a gift, recipients can “cling” back with a multimedia thank you message within seconds. Clingle Gifts marries the idea of social networks, technology and personalization no matter the occasion.

The Clingle app was designed to make capturing and sharing everyday moments a rich multi-media experience. The convenience of secure mobile payments paired with the highly personalized element of messaging, photo, video and audio options make for a gift giving experience that feels anything but long-distance. With Clingle Gifts, location-based gifting is about more than just leaving gifts for friends at premium retail stores—it’s about the pivotal moment via ‘cling’ when a special moment is captured on video.

Clingle, developed by the creators of the 2009 Big Apps Competition winner MyCityWay, transforms smartphones into a way for users to connect with people and places in a more personalized way using messaging, photo, video and audio options. Friends and family have a way to stay in touch, share tips and memories with one another on the go, all while discovering new places and frequenting their favorite spots.

Clingle Gifts will be launched in other countries in the coming months. For more information on Clingle Gifts, visit http://clingle.com/gift.php. To download the app, visit the App Store or Android Market.
