SAN FRANCISCO--()--Bank of the West announced today that it has opened an office in Chicago as it continues to expand its commercial banking business. Long-time Illinois banking executive John C. Thurston heads the Chicago office.

Bank of the West’s National Banking Office in Chicago offers lending services, capital markets, treasury management services, trade financing and other services to companies and their principals. The office is focused on serving middle-market companies with annual revenues of $25 million or more located in the Midwest.

The Chicago office brings to 19, the number of Bank of the West National Banking Offices across the United States.
Thurston has 18 years of experience in commercial banking, primarily serving middle-market companies in Illinois and the Midwest. He has a strong track record of success in building and managing commercial lending teams that focus on the principles of relationship banking.

Before joining Bank of the West, Thurston was a Managing Director of The Private Bank and Trust Company, based in Illinois. He led a team that served middle-market companies in Illinois and the Midwest. Thurston began his career and spent 14 years with Chicago-based LaSalle Bank, which was acquired by Bank of America in 2007. While at LaSalle, he built and led one of the bank's commercial lending divisions, and served as Chief of Staff for the national banking lines of business.
