PHILADELPHIA--()--Dr. Kaye Shelton, Associate Professor in Educational Leadership at Lamar University, and Andrew McCann, CEO of Waypoint Outcomes, will present the QC2 framework for assuring quality rubric-based assessment at the Sloan-C Conference in Orlando, FL.
“Waypoint Outcomes is focused on creating tools for 21st century education – which means authentic assessment of student learning through the use of rubrics”
The QC2 Framework is designed to help institutions – from K12 to Higher Education – assess and mature their rubric-based assessment processes.
According to Dr. Shelton, the author of An Administrator’s Guide to Online Education and (with the Sloan Consortium) A Quality Scorecard for the Administration of Online Programs, “Educators know that rubrics are crucial aspects to engaging students with clear expectations, providing relevant student feedback, and developing data on student learning.” She continued, “Even experienced educators struggle to develop high-quality rubrics. Too often we default to something we find on the web, or create at the last minute.”
“Waypoint Outcomes is focused on creating tools for 21st century education – which means authentic assessment of student learning through the use of rubrics,” explained Andrew McCann, CEO and founder of the Philadelphia-based company. “Our client institutions, and individual teachers using Waypoint through our free Fellows Edition, have made it clear that they need help strengthening their rubric development processes.”
The QC2 Framework (the acronym stands for “Quality, Clarity, and Comprehensiveness”) combines a capabilities model and assessment tool, so institutions can understand the maturity of their current assessment and rubric design process. Available via a PDF download from www.qc2framework.com, and as an interactive review process provided by Waypoint Outcomes, the QC2 framework will be available for free to educators around the world starting November 9, 2011. Dr. Shelton and Mr. McCann will present their work at the Sloan-C Conference for Online Learning at 12:30PM, on Wednesday, November 9th, in a presentation titled “From Good to Great: A Systematic Method for Creating Exceptional Rubrics for Assessment and Teaching.”
