SinoLatin Capital: Is Latin America China’s Breadbasket?

SinoLatin Capital Analyzes Latin America’s Fundamental Role in China’s Food and Agriculture Due to the Country’s Largest-Scale of Urbanization in History

SHANGHAI, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SinoLatin Capital, the premier investment platform between China and Latin America, announces the release of its latest white paper entitled, “How to Feed 1.4 Billion People” based on Latin America’s ever-increasing role in the future of China’s booming population growth.

“With China’s expertise in managing large infrastructure projects and a voracious appetite for food, we feel Latin America represents a perfect opportunity for Chinese businesses.”

Due to its rapid economic growth, China is experiencing the largest-scale of urbanization drive in history with 650 of its cities’ collective populations exceeding 600 million people. This type of rapid urbanization leads to a larger middle class that requires more food in wider varieties that the country itself cannot sustain. This has resulted in heavy global outsourcing of China’s food and agriculture to Latin America that has the most arable land, cleanest water, and favorable weather for agricultural activities in the world.

According to SinoLatin’s white paper there is the potential for Chinese agricultural growth in Latin America stating, “With China’s expertise in managing large infrastructure projects and a voracious appetite for food, we feel Latin America represents a perfect opportunity for Chinese businesses.” The paper goes on to state that, “In addition to fulfilling the government’s desire for businesses to go global, they also secure infrastructure contracts and future food supplies.”

China’s interest in Latin America has come to fruition in countries like Peru, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina due to China’s extreme demand for food from a growing population and income, demand for biofuel feedstock, and a need to shift production to cheaper, land abundant regions.

“While Latin America is one of China’s indispensable food suppliers, we see it growing even more important in the future. SinoLatin is ideally positioned to capitalize on this trend, and with our agribusiness expertise, we will continue to build on deals done between China and Latin America by leveraging our private equity funds and advising capabilities to help Latin America and Chinese agricultural companies make the most of their investments," the paper concludes.
