Puget Sound Energy’s Fridgeasaurus Selects Three Winners in Efficient Appliance Sweepstakes; Increases Cash Incentive for Refrigerator and Freezer Recycling Program

BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--Puget Sound Energy’s Fridgeasaurus has finished its summer tour of Puget Sound communities and has selected three winners in the efficient appliances contest, a sweepstakes giveaway of three energy efficient appliances donated by Whirlpool to three lucky PSE residential electric customers.

Fridgeasaurus, an eight-foot tall sculpture made of eight recycled refrigerator doors and painted by local children, announced the three contest winners at PSE’s Renewable Energy Center at Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility near Ellensburg; winners were selected at random.

“Congratulations to the winners: first place – Shirley Newman of Olympia, Wash. won a front-loading washer and dryer; second place – Sau-wa Chan of Redmond, Wash. won a French door refrigerator with bottom freezer; and third place – Ronda Yowell of Olympia, Wash., won a top-loading washer and dryer,” roared Fridgeasaurus. “We are excited to provide these efficient appliances donated by Whirlpool to our customers to help them save energy and money.”

This summer, Fridgeasaurus traveled to Renton’s National Night Out, various PSE Rock the Bulb: The Re-Energize Tour stops, local retailers, The Puyallup Fair and PSE’s Renewable Energy Center to encourage customers to take advantage of PSE’s free refrigerator and freezer recycling program, to promote rebates for energy efficient appliances and PSE’s efficient appliances contest.

Now that Fridgeasaurus’ tour ended, the art piece will be taken apart and the materials from the eight refrigerator and freezer doors will be recycled, including all the metal, plastic, gaskets and screws.

In Fridgeasaurus’ honor, and in an effort to help residential electric customers save money on their energy bills, PSE has increased the cash incentive for its spare refrigerator and freezer recycling program from $30 to $50 through Dec. 31.

Older model refrigerators and freezers can use up to four times the energy of newer energy-efficient models. By recycling old refrigerators and freezers customers can save up to $200 a year in energy costs.

Customers who participate in the refrigerator and freezer recycling program receive free pickup of their spare refrigerator or freezer, typically the unit found in the garage or basement, and a $50 thank you from PSE in the form of a check or prepaid VISA card. The $50 thank you is offered to customers who schedule to have their spare refrigerator or freezer picked-up before Dec. 31 or while funds last.

For complete guidelines on the refrigerator and freezer recycling program, or to schedule a free pickup of a secondary unit, visit PSE.com/Fridge or call 1-866-551-9755.
