Backupify Snapshot Liberates Google Apps Data for Small Businesses

Download and export tool establishes data control, de-provisioning processes for Google Apps deployments

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--()--Backupify (http://www.backupify.com), the leading provider of data protection and management services for organizations that rely on cloud-based applications, today unveiled the latest release of Backupify Snapshot, a simple, powerful tool for IT administrators to extract and download a complete Google Apps account for any user on their domain. Snapshot provides IT administrators with powerful capabilities to control their company’s data when an employee departs by archiving that data locally, allowing IT departments to implement data management best practices for Google Apps and match the processes they used previously with on-premise email systems like Exchange and Groupwise.

Backupify Snapshot offers users an unprecedented level of administrative control over their cloud environment. The tool empowers IT administrators to establish the same workflows and controls in the cloud that they had with their on-premise software deployments. With one click, Snapshot compresses Google Apps account data into an easy-to-extract ZIP file that can be downloaded to local machines, eliminating the fear of data loss.

“Backupify allows companies to move to the cloud with confidence by giving them more control over their valuable business data in the cloud,” said CEO and Co-Founder, Rob May. “Snapshot is essentially a data liberation tool that enables users to have unlimited and unconstrained access to their valuable business data by downloading that data locally.”

Today, Google Apps domain administrators are faced with two unsatisfactory choices when a user departs the company: Delete the user account and risk losing data, or continue paying $50 per year for an inactive account simply to preserve all the user's information. Snapshot offers a third, superior option: Download the user data to a local machine so that the Google Apps account can be deleted without fear of data loss. Since its initial release, more than 500 businesses have chosen Snapshot to be a key part of the Google Apps archiving and de-provisioning process for departing employees resulting in liberated data, freed-up licenses and money saved.

“The decision to use Snapshot was a no-brainer--it’s simple, cost-effective and works like a charm every time,” said Chris Hazzard, VP Creative Director, Sanborn Media Factory. “Now, if one of our employees leaves or we need to delete an unused account, we simply select the user, hit a button, and download a zip file with all their files--saving us $50 per year for each account.”

The latest edition of Backupify Snapshot features a number of product upgrades to facilitate an easier and more cost-effective workflow, including:

Support for large organizations

Whether an organization has ten users or ten thousand, Snapshot’s enterprise-grade infrastructure helps Google Apps administrators support their organizations by providing robust search and data access capabilities.

Refererral functionality

Snapshot users can get free downloads by inviting other IT administrators to use the tool.

Multi-User and Batch Downloading

Snapshot users can select multiple users to download in batches. This helps ease the transition process when downloading data from multiple Google Apps user accounts.

Integration with payment processing engine - Google Checkout.

Snapshot is fully integrated with Google Checkout so that users have more payment options.

Backupify Snapshot is now available to users as a standalone service, or to customers of Backupify’s Google Apps Backup service. The tool can also be downloaded from the Google Apps Marketplace.
