Red Hat Expands Cloud Ecosystem through Partnership with Virtustream

Virtustream Named Red Hat Premier Certified Cloud Provider and Announces Multi-Hypervisor Support for its Enterprise Cloud Platform, xStream

RALEIGH, N.C. & SAN FRANCISCO--()--Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, and Virtustream Inc., a leading provider of cloud software solutions and services, today announced that Virtustream has joined Red Hat’s cloud ecosystem as a Premier Certified Cloud Provider. With this, Virtustream has added support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to its xStream cloud platform and now offers Red Hat Enterprise Linux on-demand to customers. Virtustream can now offer its customers a more scalable and flexible cloud infrastructure through enhanced support within a unified private and multi-tenanted enterprise cloud, and Red Hat customers can also now easily deploy on xStream.

Virtustream’s xStream platform enables enterprises to leverage best-of-breed software and hardware, which now also includes virtual servers, storage, networks, clients, applications and middleware powered by the Red Hat Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor. Virtustream’s unique consumption-based pricing model aggregates requirements of workloads operating within the cloud and dynamically allocates resources to those with the greatest demand to optimize and balance the operating environment. By creating SLA-based resource pools normalized to containers of virtual compute referred to as Infrastructure Units, Virtustream can offer compelling guarantees of CPU, memory, network and storage I/O resources.

As part of its partnership with Red Hat as a Premier Certified Cloud Provider, Virtustream will now offer Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization on xStream, offering cloud environments running on its xStream platform one of the most scalable, secure virtualization infrastructures available, designed specifically for multi-tenant environments. In addition, Virtustream will offer Red Hat Enterprise Linux as a guest operating system, allowing enterprise customers leveraging the cloud to quickly and easily get Red Hat Enterprise Linux images on demand.

“Having built xStream based on deep virtualization expertise and a keen understanding that no two IT environments will look the same, we realized that it was critical for our cloud delivery platform to support Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization as new offerings emerge,” said Kevin Reid, chief executive officer and chief technology officer of Virtustream. “By partnering with Red Hat and adding our support of KVM, we leverage xStream’s strength of architecture and provide the flexibility to support both web scale and legacy applications.”

“Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization provides a powerful foundation for cloud providers such as Virtustream,” said Scott Crenshaw, vice president and general manager, Cloud Business Unit at Red Hat. “By partnering with companies like Virtustream, we continue to deliver more choice in virtualization and cloud computing to enterprises with solutions such as Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. We welcome Virtustream to our Premier Certified Cloud Provider program.”
