VroomGirls.com Helps Women Make Informed Car-Buying Decisions

LOS ANGELES--()--In a field of buff books that rant about horsepower, suspensions and shocks, VroomGirls (http://www.VroomGirls.com), an automotive site created by and for women, provides a decidedly female point of view to the car-buying process. The site, which launches today, offers jargon-free car reviews, features on what's new in interior fabrics, sound systems, best cars for teens, eco cars, the best vehicles to haul your pets, even stories about cars that make you look skinny.

VroomGirls is the creation of Tara Weingarten, who spent 17 years reviewing cars for Newsweek’s Road Test column and many times found she was the only female at the new car launches.

“The industry is male-driven, yet women buy the lion’s share of new cars in America,” said Weingarten, who also serves as editor-in-chief. “Nobody with credentials is specifically addressing women who are looking for a new car. Where can she go to get solid information in a format and language that doesn’t bore her?”

VroomGirls has the look of a fashion magazine and reads like you’re talking to your best friend. In addition to car reviews, the new website offers travel features, an Ask Tara advice column, news briefs, Car of the Month, and driving tips. Emmy-nominated sitcom writer Janis Hirsch gives readers a check-your-blind-spot look at life from her Toyota Prius in her column, “No,YOU Shut Up and Drive!,” and women can even purchase a car on VroomGirls with no-haggle pricing.

Toyota, Lamborghini and Ferrari have signed on as advertisers with VroomGirls. “Increasingly, male-oriented car companies are realizing women have buying power and are interested in experiencing the fun of the sports car,” said Weingarten. “Additionally, even if a woman is not the one actually buying the car, she is influencing more than 80 percent of the car purchases. Husbands who are lobbying for a specific car, should have their wives log onto VroomGirls and read about it. We’ll explain it in terms that will not make her eyes glaze over.”
